Interacting invites disabled artists, actors, singers, dancers, comedians, music and cultural groups, film-makers, volunteers and sponsors to be part of our 16th Annual InterAct Disability Arts Festival (October 21-23, at Corbans Estate Arts Centre, Henderson).

This 3 day event is Auckland's biggest festival for disabled people, and is a celebration of all our brave and talented artists and performers.

This year's theme is 'Magical Moments.' You can use this for your inspiration if you would like to.

What Is Interact?

Interact is a 3 day festival that brings together people with disabilities from all over Auckland (sometimes from out of Auckland too!), providing an opportunity to perform on stage and showcase their talents. We also run workshops, including mural painting, arts and crafts, puppet making, hip hop dancing, clowning and face painting.

We have an art exhibition, a mini-market, and a wearable arts parade.

The festival is a good chance to try something new, meet new people and have a great day or two or three out!

Who can come?

Anyone with or associated with disabilities is welcome to perform, exhibit artwork, participate in our mini-market, or come as audience members. This includes school groups, organisations, individuals, parents, support workers, and caregivers.

We also welcome individual or corporate volunteers to help us run the festival.

Can we perform anything?

Yes! Showcase your talent! Whether it be kapa haka, a dance, a skit, a scene from a school show, a poetry reading, stand up comedy, a mime, a band performance, anything! You may want to use our theme 'Magical Moments' as inspiration.

Where and when is the InterAct Festival ?

At Corbans Estate Arts Centre/Te Pou Theatre (2 Mt Lebanon Lane, Henderson, Auckland)

Wednesday 21 - Friday 23 October 2026, 10am - 2pm.

Will there be lighting and sound provided?

Yes! Once you fill in your form, John will be in contact regarding the specs you need on the technical side of things. There may be some things the crew cannot provide and that you may need to bring on your own.

There is also a screen projector.

Music, sound, videos, images need to be on a USB stick and given to the sound crew before your performance. Details will be sent closer to the time.

Can we come see the stage first?

If needed, there is a technical rehearsal day on Tuesday 20 October where performers can come see the stage and observe the atmosphere and test out the lighting and sound.

What kind of artwork can be displayed and what will they be displayed on?

The screens are 2300mm high x 1200mm wide x 50mm thick.

We try and accommodate all art work. There may be plinths and tables available for small sculptures and ceramics. For art work that cannot be displayed on a board, our curator will contact you to discuss how to best display your art.

What is the wearable arts parade?

The daily wearable arts parade is for anyone to dress up and walk across a stage. You may want to bring a fancy costume from home, or wear one of the costumes provided on the day, such as fancy hats, masks,  hula skirts, leis, easy to slip on tops and other props. We have volunteers who help dress the participants and match different costumes and props to the participants' interests.

Then they walk across the stage and parade through the venue, ending back at the station to take off costumes.

We welcome schools or other activity groups to make costumes as part of their projects. 

Does it cost to be part of the mini market?

There may be a small cost (eg: $20) that helps covers a few expenses in particular the eftpos machine if needed.

Does it cost to participate or attend the festival?

No, It's completely free!
