The Interacting Trust was established in 2006
to develop the potential and capabilities of disabled people through
participation in all aspects of theatre.
In 2007, Interacting ran a series of introductory
drama workshops throughout Auckland with the financial help of Auckland
City Council Creative Communities Fund aimed at accessing as many
people as possible interested in being involved. A number of people
from these workshops went on to star in the December production
at the Glen Eden Playhouse of "The Deadly House party"
In January 2008, Interacting began work on an ensemble
theatre piece with six actors called "Into the Naughty Corner"
drawn from the actors own experiences. It is a moving sometimes
hilarious exploration of what its like to grow up different. The
six actors have all lived and worked through intellectual disabilities
and use the play as a medium to speak about their experiences.
2009 "Into the Naughty Corner" has gone on
to be performed in schools, at the Auckland Fringe Festival, 2009
and as a double bill with "The World in Focus" at the 2009 Mau Festival.
"My head's in a whirl" - Interacting in collaboration
with A Supported Life presents an inimitable take on Shakespeare.
With a cast of over 20 and an original script, music and dancing,
this production is a roller coaster ride through laughter, pathos,
tears and sheer spookiness!
